I had the opportunity to speak with some local business owners in Marigot this week. For those of you who don’t know, Marigot is the area where Melville Hall airport is located. Apparently, some night landings have taken place in recent weeks by Liat and Winair Airlines. American Airlines had a landing scheduled but had to turn around due to weather. There are a lot of mixed feelings in the community about this advancement. For the sake of tourism-decreased travel time to the island and easy international access-this is great news. There are however concerns about flying through the mountains at night with fog/winds etc. to a fairly small runway that is only a few feet away from the Atlantic Ocean.
I’ll definitely be looking to read and hear more about how the night landings are advancing. If any readers out there have experienced a night landing at Melville Hall, please share your experiences with us by posting a comment below (your email will not be published).
