Winair leaving Dominica

I heard over the Dominica radio the other day that Winair has announced changes that will effect several of the Caribbean islands, including Dominica. The only online article I could find about it is at the  The Daily Herald of St. Maarten. I did not see an official announcement posted about the changes on the Winair website or Facebook page.

According to the article, due to administrative/financial problems, Winair will no longer be flying to Dominica after March. However, Winair mentioned on their Facebook page that they have flights available to come to Dominica through May. Either way, it’s too bad. It has been nice having an additional airline to fly with outside of Liat and American. Winair has made island hoping easier and more affordable. A lot of students were flying Winair to St. Maarten where they could connect to larger airlines headed for the states. For some it helped prevent the inevitable overnight in San Juan.

Oh well, it was nice while it lasted. In the meantime, here is the latest update about night landings at Melville Hall Airport.

I hope this doesn’t mean I get a cancellation notice for a flight I already paid for!
