RUSM Art and Craft Fair 2011

Save the Date! The Ross University annual Art & Craft fair is scheduled for Friday, November 18th and Saturday, November 19th at the Campus Activity Center. Artists and craftsmen will be coming from all over the island to display their creations. You can expect to see paintings, wood carvings, woven baskets, walking sticks, calabash, island photography, dolls, jewelry, and souvenirs. This event is an incredible display of all the talent and culture that Dominica holds.

So why does Ross host this ? The purpose of this event is to raise awareness of Dominican culture as well as to raise funds for specific local charities. The fair participants graciously agree to offer a portion of their sales to these organizations that are in need. In addition to that, money is raised via raffle tickets sales. Local restaurants, hotels, and businesses donate substantial raffle prizes that are given away to the lucky ticket holders on Saturday just about every hour of the fair, sometimes three per hour!

Where we luck out is that this event is in our back yard, just before the holidays when we are wanting to buy gifts for people. It provides the perfect opportunity for shopping for loved ones back home and supporting the local community at the same time. Many local restaurants come out to provide food, drinks, and sweet treats to keep you happy while you shop. There will be an area for children called the “Kid’s Corner” where the little ones can get their face painted as well as display their own art work.

So mark your calendars. I’ll provide more info on specifics as the fair draws near. It’s only once a year, so don’t miss out on it.
