Independence Celebrations 2012 Dominica

Dominica’s 2012 Independence Celebration kicked off on September 23rd and will go all the way through November 5th. This is a great time of year to learn about the culture of Dominica as expressed in music, dance, cuisine, traditions and customs. Hopefully you’ve noticed all the plaid/madras creole prints being worn, especially on Fridays. Here is the calendar of events for the next month. Don’t forget that World Creole Music Festival  is coming up October 26th-28th at the stadium down in Roseau. My favorite event to attend is Creole in the Park down at the botanical gardens, set this year for October 22nd to the 25th. If you’re bogged down studying and can’t get away from the area, definitely try to take a break and check out the Cultural Finals down at the cruise ship berth in Portsmouth on Sunday, October 14th at 4pm. Also, check out  “Market Day With A Difference” on Saturday, October 20th, down at the Portsmouth market.
