With Valentine’s Day approaching, it’s a great time to start thinking about how you are going to celebrate! The Champs in Picard is rolling out a couple of staycation packages for sweethearts…and they were just awarded the Travelers’ Choice Award from Trip Advisor. We recently checked out their special dining with U.S. chef Eric Subin. You need to treat yourself to that experience if you haven’t already!
The Champs is located at the top of Banana trail in Picard. You can catch their shuttle parked close to Clara House to get a ride up the hill (445-4452) or you can walk up. The combination of the sea view and the cool breeze at The Champs makes it a wonderful place for dining. I highly recommend watching sunset from their Jacuzzi deck if you get a chance 🙂 . It will remind you why you moved to Dominica and how peaceful life can be when you take time to slow down and enjoy it.
During our dining experience we were able to sample a couple of different items on the menu-hummus, seared tuna with wasabi mashed potatoes, conch burger, pizza, and dessert. The food was fresh, well seasoned, and cleverly paired. Delish! The culinary skills of Chef Subin did not disappoint. If you need a break from the standard fare in Picard, The Champs offers a nice alternative.
You’ll find the owners, Hans & Lise, are warm and welcoming no matter what reason you’ve crossed their path. Their hotel, restaurant, and bar serves Picard well. As members of the Rotary Club of Portsmouth, Hans and Lise also give back to the local community. I’m most excited about the Rotarians current project to renovate the Portsmouth Hospital Emergency Room. I can’t wait to see how it turns out.
During the week, The Champs has different specials and entertainment options so check them out. Remember to make reservations for special dining with Chef Subin. Check out their facebook page or website for more information.
