On the northern edge of campus is an area called the “Picard Food Pavillion” aka “The Shacks“. The shacks are a row of local vendors selling food, drinks, smoothies, snacks, fruits, vegetables, and some souvenirs. Cheapest meals in Picard. For beverages, there are a few juice shacks and a coffee shack. Most shacks sell bottled water and soda. For food, there are a variety of cuisines available -Caribbean/local food, Mexican, Indian and Italian (pizza shack). Lots of chicken, fish, beans, rice, and pasta. For the very health conscious I recommend shack #4. It is run by a local dietician, Mrs. Lambert. She has soy, tofu, yogurt etc. You can view video footage of the shacks by clicking here and here .

Does anyone know what happened to the family that ran Jack’s Chinese after Hurricane Maria? They had a four year old and a 9 month old when the hurricane hit. We think of them often and hope they are doing well. Thanks.

So here I am on the lake in Idaho talking to John in Dominica on the phone and since I’m not there I think he can’t feed himself so I say “call ahead to Hope and order the crispy rice thing you like to pick up on your way home”. He says “do you have the number?” (said as a joke) “yes, dear” I say, I go to your fabulous web site and bingo there it is!

Yes ! I saw him last week. It was like seeing an old friend, lol. I had deleted his number out of my cell bc I thought they were shut down. Going to have to do something about that. Wonder how he will make out with the new Shwarma Kings down the street ?
